Who we’re looking for:

We’re looking for a regulatory professional with strong Alberta Energy Regulator experience who can help NorthRiver deliver high-quality regulatory applications, sustain compliance across operations and projects, and build practical tools and processes that make regulatory work more proactive, consistent and insight-driven. You bring sound judgment, curiosity, and the confidence to identify risks, improve ways of working, and take initiative in a lean, fast-moving environment.

• An AER specialist with broader regulatory range: You bring strong working knowledge of AER requirements and processes and are interested in expanding your exposure to CER-regulated assets and, where needed, BCER matters. You can apply regulatory requirements to business decisions and explain them clearly to projects, operations, environment, engineering and commercial teams.
• A practical problem solver: You can break down complex regulatory issues, identify what matters, and recommend practical paths forward. You balance attention to detail with commercial awareness, know when to escalate, and help the business move with discipline.
• Someone who takes ownership and initiative: You spot gaps, clarify accountabilities, propose improvements, and follow through. You are comfortable moving between applications, compliance obligations, regulator correspondence, field-facing support and internal process improvement.
• A forward-looking regulatory thinker: You are interested in moving regulatory work from reactive response to proactive risk management. You see value in trackers, playbooks, lessons learned, technology, clear records, and business intelligence that help the organization anticipate issues and make better decisions.

What you’ll do:

In this role, your workdays may include:

• Lead and support regulatory applications, notifications, amendments and filings under AER requirements, with opportunities to support CER and other provincial filings as business needs evolve.
• Develop and execute regulatory strategies for projects, operations, asset changes, deactivations, reactivations, leave-to-open activities, transfers, reporting obligations and other lifecycle matters.
• Track conditions, commitments, permits, notices, information requests, compliance obligations and evidence through the project and asset lifecycle.
• Support regulatory inspections, audits, assessments and other compliance verification activities by helping prepare records, coordinate subject matter experts, respond to information requests, and track lessons learned and corrective actions.
• Partner with operations, projects, engineering, environment, legal, commercial and field teams to translate regulatory requirements into clear actions and maintain inspection-ready records.
• Prepare, review and coordinate regulatory applications, notifications, amendments, information request responses, stakeholder intervention responses, compliance filings and required submissions.
• Contribute to due diligence, asset transition, abandonment funding, liability management and other regulatory workstreams associated with transactions, asset changes and evolving business priorities.
• Participate in regulatory consultations, industry associations and forums to understand emerging regulator expectations and translate external developments into internal awareness and action.
• Help build a future-ready regulatory function by improving trackers, templates, playbooks, dashboards, record structures and technology-enabled reporting that support proactive risk identification and consistent execution.

What you bring:

Required

• Certificate, Diploma or Degree in a related field
• 5+ years of experience
• Strong working knowledge of Alberta Energy Regulator requirements and processes, with exposure to federal regulation through the Canada Energy Regulator or a demonstrated willingness and ability to learn CER requirements quickly.
• Strong communication and excellent attention to detail.
• Experience preparing, reviewing or coordinating regulatory applications, filings, information request responses, compliance reports or regulator correspondence for energy infrastructure or related industrial operations.
• Sound judgment, strong writing skills and the ability to turn complex regulatory requirements into clear advice, recommendations and action plans.

Preferred

• Experience supporting inspections, audits, assessments, field compliance activities, management system reviews or corrective action tracking.
• Curious, forward-thinking and comfortable using technology, data, trackers or reporting tools to improve regulatory visibility, consistency and business intelligence.
• Ability to build credible working relationships across all levels of the organization, including operations, projects, environment, engineering, legal, commercial and field teams.
• Ability to identify and define issues, exercise judgment without perfect precedent, recommend practical courses of action, and help improve processes so the team can manage recurring regulatory work more proactively.
